BUT, I am even angrier with the fact that those people who are responsible for the menu would so conveniently forget that there will be people who obviously cannot take beef who are in the orientation. Even if those people who cannot take beef are just a minority of the group, anyone who is considerate enough can think for themself. There are staunch Hindus in the orientation, there are staunch Buddhists in the orientation so fuck you, inconsiderate ass.
Of course, we cannot see if one is a staunch Buddhist or Hindu or not but given the knowledge that we all had about our friends from other religion which has been taught in school back in primary schools, one should know that most Indian Malaysians are Hindus and many Chinese Malaysians are Buddhist, and both Buddhists and Hindus cannot take beef.
If he or she is not sure, then at least, be respectful and ask! If you genuinely do not know that Hindus and Buddhists cannot take beef, then please, at least you can make it up to the students by buying them dinner which they can consume.
Anyway, if beef is substituted with pork in this case, it will be a HUGE issue and I'm sure it will be more than just complaining on Facebook & blog posts. I am comparing beef with pork because it is one of the forbidden meat in a religion too, and not trying to start anything racist!
I know, some Indians & Chinese do consume beef but you cannot assume that all of those who are present in the orientation do! The bottom line is, whoever made the decision to serve beef should be more considerate seeing that students in that campus all come from different ethnic & religious backgrounds.
p/s : Actually, there had been many issues with people who cannot consume beef, are served beef. What prompts me to blog about this is because I simply cannot believe that they make this mistake in a friggin campus which consists of students of different backgrounds.
Disclaimers : (just in case, eventhough no one actually reads my blog)
#1 My friend did not complain on FB, somebody asked why she didn't have dinner to eat and she just explained, WITHOUT trying to create issues/arguments.
#2 I am NOT saying anything racist. This has got nothing to do with race anyway, so shut the hell up.
#3 Of course, people make their own choices and everyone's choices tend to be different. A Hindu or a Buddhist can choose to consume beef, or whatever it is to their liking but, what I'm stressing here is the need to be considerate to others, by the person who manages the menu. Isn't it the same like serving pork to Muslims, no? If a child bringing pork to school for his own consumption bothers one so much, think about what you did to these poor hungry students. Let us respect each other, alright.
